interviewed for “fit to print” documentary

A couple of weeks ago I had the privilege of sitting down with Adam Chadwick, a former copy editor from The New York Times who, like me, was laid off from the newspaper industry.

After he was laid off, Adam decided to take a long, hard critical look at the newspaper industry. He started talking with all kinds of people both from within the industry and analysts outside the industry. And he decided to make a documentary film about the decline of the newspaper industry.

Lucky for me Adam was looking for a few photographers to help fill in some of the holes in his story. He contacted me via e-mail, and after an hour-long chat on the phone and a few more e-mail exchanges, he said he’d like to interview me on film.

As a result a couple of weeks ago I found myself sitting down on the other side of the camera in an apartment near Fort Reno in Washington, D.C., talking about my experience getting laid off and waxing poetic about the state of the newspaper industry in general.

Whether I actually make the final film or end up on the cutting room floor is yet to be seen, but I’m still honored to be among the many intelligent, talented people who were included in this project.

From what I understand, “Fit to Print” should be released in 2011.
