Congratulations to the new Mr. & Mrs. Karl Deiotte, and thank you so much for wanting me to be a part of your special day!

Kristen and Karl were married at The Sanderling resort in the Outer Banks on May 21. I’m still editing the pictures, but here are a few of my favorites so far!

coolest office ever?

Today I got to visit the D.C. offices of iStrategy Labs, a digital design firm, on a shoot for Elevation D.C.

Now I have been to LOTS of offices in my day, making LOTS of pictures/portraits for various publications. But this one was probably the coolest office I’ve ever been in. The kind of place that would make me excited about going to work every day, and not complain too much about having to work in an office!

Christ Church Vienna

My old high school friend Johnny Kurcina is now a pastor, leading a new church called Christ Church Vienna. He contacted me in February and asked if I might be able to come photograph one of their church services for use on their website.
So last Sunday, St. Patrick’s Day, instead of donning green I put on my photographer’s requisite black and headed to our alma mater, James Madison High School, whose auditorium is currently the church’s home every Sunday.

The pics will soon be gracing the Christ Church Vienna website, but here’s a sneak preview:

I just finished photographing D.C. Councilmember Mary Cheh at the Wilson Building in Washington, D.C. She and her staff were a ton of fun to work with, particularly creating mock hearings for some action shots!

Ashley Judd Comes to Washington

I got to photograph Ashley Judd on Friday at GWU in Washington, D.C. for Politico. She was invited by the School of Public Health and Health Services to give a talk about women’s global health issues. I have to say I was pretty impressed by how well-spoken and intelligent she is, and it’s a topic she’s certainly passionate about! As an added bonus her mom Naomi Judd was in the audience.

On Sunday I got to photograph the Code of Support Foundation’s VETStravaganza concert at GW Lisner Auditorium in Washington, D.C. The show promoted hiring vets and military spouses and included performances by the West Point Cadet Glee Club, the West Point Alumni Glee Club, 4Troops, Homefire, and country music rising star David Kroll and established star Mark Wills.

I’m really excited that I had the opportunity today to shoot a freelance assignment for the Star-Ledger, based in Newark, N.J. They hired me (the first time they’ve hired a D.C. photographer in YEARS! YAAY!) to get pictures of Sen. Frank Lautenberg, who today announced his retirement.

After some scrambling around, I managed to catch up with the senator on his way to the subway that connects the Senate Office Buildings with the U.S. Capitol. I introduced myself and he agreed to let me ride with him on the subway, where I made this shot:

Charlotte Hallworth joined the world on New Year’s Eve, just in time for a party!

I love photographing newborns…it’s so much fun! And I think as a mom it makes me a little nostalgic for when my kiddos were that small.

I’m all for the props and having fun with it…do it while you can, I say. (This from a mom whose 3-year-old already said, “No, mommy, that’s NOT what I’m going to be for Halloween,” when I told her I thought she should be Pucca. Really? I only got 2 years of picking my child’s Halloween costume?) So moms (and dads), I say, if you’re into props, GO FOR IT! (Plus, this is great fodder for blackmail when they’re older! hee hee)

AIDS Memorial Quilt Comes to D.C.

Blocks from the AIDS Memorial Quilt are currently on display at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., in honor of the 2012 International AIDS Conference. On Wednesday, July 18, 2012 the cathedral received a block from St. George’s Cathedral in Cape Town, South Africa. They held a small ceremony to bless the block, and now it will be added to the others that are on display.

spring has sprung!

Although today is officially the first day of spring, yesterday felt pretty darn spring-like here in the nation’s capital. And with spring come the cherry blossoms (and the tourists!).
I got to spend yesterday in the beautiful warm weather making some pictures of the cherry blossoms in their full glory for The Washington Times.
